Why
Duct Cleaning?
Environmental
Protection Agency
studies
indicate that indoor levels of pollutants
may be 2-5 times, and occasionally more than 100
times, higher
than outdoor levels. They note that this may be of particular concern
because most people spend about 90%
of their time
indoors.
With
energy conservation a priority, buildings and homes have become more
insulated and energy efficient. As such, they are more effective in
keeping outside air out, while inside air is trapped
in. This has resulted in homes and businesses becoming refuge for dust and contaminants.
Your
air conditioning, heating and ventilation system is the primary
transportation vehicle for moving
contaminants throughout
the working or living space. Contaminants include bacteria, pet dander,
pollen, dust mites, mold spores, mildew, dirt, and other debris.
It
is particularly important to have your ducts cleaned…
C
If you suffer from
allergies, asthma or other respiratory
problems,

If you observe a “stale”
or “musty” odor when your air system is
operating.

If there are smokers

What
does a professional M3 HVAC duct cleaning include?
Different
homes require different levels of cleaning but generally, a professional
HVAC air duct cleaning includes the registers, returns, air ducts,
condenser coil, air handler, furnace, and furnace blower. Additionally, M3
HVAC sanitizes and deodorizes your air ducts.
M3
HVAC uses a "push/pull" (aka Source Removal) method of cleaning
air ducts. Only this method
of removal is recommended by the National
Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA). This method places the
system under negative pressure, through the use of a specialized, powerful
vacuum. While the vacuum draws air through the system, devices are
inserted into the ducts to dislodge any debris that might be stuck to
interior surfaces. The debris can then travel down the ducts to the
vacuum, which removes it from the system and the home or business.
Once
cleaned, M3 HVAC fogs the entire system with a non-toxic solution called
Soot Set which encapsulates
any residual microscopic bacteria and dust. Then a second disinfectant and
deodorizing product is applied to control odors and bacteria in the
system. M3 HVAC uses a safe
E.P.A. approved disinfectant
that will give continuous protection
for over 6 months. The cleaned registers are then reinstalled.
As
a preventative measure, M3 HVAC offers
a highly efficient permanent
“Electrostatic
Air Filter” which many allergist doctors recommend. This
filter is about 93% efficient, compared to the less than 10% efficiency of
many throw away paper filters.
Beware of the "blow-and-go"
air duct cleaning companies. Often, these companies charge an exceedingly
low fee ($99 or less) and do little more than what one might be able to do
with a shop-vac.
Why
should I clean my dryer ducts?
The
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that in 1997, there were
16,700
fires, 30 deaths and 430 injuries associated with clothes
dryers. These fires can occur when lint builds up in the filter or in the
exhaust duct. Under certain conditions, when lint blocks the flow of air, excessive
heat build-up can cause a fire in some dryers. Please visit
www.CPSC.gov for more information on preventing dryer fires.
Cleaning
your dryer ducts and vents not only will reduce
the chances of a dryer fire, but it should result in faster
drying times as well as energy savings.
Please consider M3 HVAC as the service provider of choice for your dryer
and air duct cleaning needs.
How
often should I change the air filters in my house?
The
requirement for changing air filters varies from home to home depending
upon how often you run your heating/air conditioning system. Generally,
you should change or clean your filters every
4-8 weeks. Letting the filter get clogged can cut down on the
efficiency of your system and/or cause damage to the unit. For residential
and light commercial applications, M3 HVAC recommends the use of washable
electrostatic filters for superior filtration and long-term value.
